It only happened to be the hottest day of the year coinciding with the school half-term break, the last day of the football premier league and the Bank holiday weekend! One by one my phone rang to let me down - broken hand, family celebration, BBQ, beach - "something" was coming up all over the place. I don't give up, I turn the phone off! Those who love the game will turn up! And they did and we had a brilliant time. 5 hours of hot sweaty squash and people who have caught the bug and are coming back for more and more! The game was the winner!

I owe thanks to brilliant corporations who sponsored the goody-bags and provide free drinks. Big thanks to all the lovers of the game who realy want to see squash in the Olympics.

The best news is that we can do it again and make it bigger and better and get even more players in to the game. Raise the profile and squash is on to a winner. We plan to have another squash day before the end of the year where no one will have an excuse to opt out! Czech squash association (CASQ) organized a fundraising
activity.

We produced T-shirts with Squash 2016 logo. Half of the price of the t-shirt will go to WSF. T-shirts are selling very well.

In fact during the tournaments and other activities on Saturday we sold out all t-shirts we produced so we had to make more so everyone
who wants can get his t-shirt. Every member was also asked directly by e-mail to support financially the Olympic bid. We would like to send the money we collect on June 10th. The other activity organized by CASQ includes a squash tournament for sports journalists.

Unfortunately the sports journalists are always very busy on weekends so we agreed with Czech republic´s Sports Journalists Club to play the
tournament in few weeks time during the weekday.

Our goal with this unofficial National squash championships for sports journalists is to
improve our relations with media so they can promote squash a bit more. Lot of clubs organized their activities as well. For example at Zvonarna in Ceske Budejovice local club players and coaches organized the day when everyone could come and try squash. They also played some exhibition matches and doubles where local national junior team member
Denisa Peleskova took part and they were able to attract a lot of new players especially kids as they targeted local schools.

The most interesting activity was probably the 12-hour night squash marathon organized by VŠ liga which is a club of university students squash players. Two teams of 15 players played each other from 22:00 on Friday till 10:00 on Saturday. Blue team beat Yellow team 106:88 in
games and 1775:1600 in points.

World Squash Day in Mexico

Over 100 participants gathered at the club to either watch or compete in events which included a junior tournament, a battle of the sexes tournament and exhibition matches by some of Mexico’s best junior and master players.

To conclude the day’s events, Mexico’s own Samantha Teran (World #15 ranked WISPA player) played an exhibition match against the club’s top player, Gerardo De Paul. The event was covered by television, radio and the press.

The festivities continued at another of Mexico’s important squash clubs, Ciudad de Mexico. Owner Jose Perez Licea organized a “dual meet” which pitted the “legends” vs. the “up and coming”. The rosters included players such as Octavio Montero, Pepe Mandujano, Armando Zarazua, Eduardo Lopez, Juan Camacho, Miled Zarazua, Ricardo Lopez, Samantha Teran, Miguel Montero, Luis Quintal, Jonathan Ramos, and Marco Toriz.

Squash Delta was another club that hosted World Squash Day activities which included a junior tournament, exhibition matches, raffles and food. Owners Miriam and Ulises Marques promote a family environment at their club which was fitting for this special day and event that was covered by Mexico’s leading television station, Televisa.

The day’s events were concluded at the statue of the Angel of Independence in the center of the capital. Dozens gathered to join in the official photo for the “Squash for 2016” Olympics campaign. From there it was on to Element, a nightclub-bar owned by Samatha Teran’s family.

The partying and dancing went on into the wee hours of the morning for those who “boasted” of great physical conditioning – probably a result of all that high altitude training here – all for a good cause.

Joaquin H. Against all expectations we had 74 players participating though a max of 50 had been planned. Such was the excitement!! Online registrations.....the first of its kind for a tournament in North India...proved very popular. 30 odd entries came through this route.

Squash 2016 t-shirts proved extremely popular. About 100 had been printed...these were distributed to all participants, admin staff, DDA officials and coaches. Fitness First delivered 70 bags with Bag, t shirts and a water bottle each along with a one day free pass for the gym. Some snaps above showcase the synergies, the energy and the spirit that were on display.

We sincerely hope such events showcase the popularity of squash and strengthen its bid for inclusion as an Olympic sport in 2016.

We have over 300 people in Penang, Malaysia! :D

Due to our limited court space and time on court, the draws were smaller than they could have been. Apart from the tournament, there were clinics with Varsity team members, an exhibition between school number 1, Bryan Keating, and Tufts University number 1, Alex Gross, a fun raffle to raise money for the olympic effort, and some king of the court. About 50 kids showed up for the event, which is incredible because we only organized the event a week in advance of Squash 2016 Day. In addition, it is a holiday weekend in the US and many people are off on vacation. It was a great event and we have several pictures of hard fought matches.
